Join us for a panel discussion on the business and investment opportunities that have opened up in the medical devices sector due to breakthroughs in data science (AI and Deep Learning algorithms) and changing regulatory, business, and reimbursement models. The speakers, including leaders in medical devices, reimbursement, data science, and strategy, will address the following:

Bios

Bobby Ghoshal, CTO, ResMed
Bobby Ghoshal has been chief technology officer (CTO) for ResMed since April 2018. He previously served as chief operating officer for Brightree, a ResMed-owned provider of cloud-based software-as-a-service for out-of-hospital care. Prior to that Bobby led the information technology function for the U.S., Canada, and Latin America commercial teams, driving adoption of digital platforms and data analytics across the enterprise. Bobby has more than 25 years’ experience in technology across multiple industries including finance, semiconductors, and healthcare. Bobby has helped build and lead high-performance teams in information technology, innovation, digital and business strategy, information security, advanced analytics, operations, and customer care.


Leo Grady, CEO, Paige
Dr. Grady is the CEO of Paige and has over 15 years of experience in creating advanced medical imaging and AI-based software. Prior to joining Paige, he worked at HeartFlow building and launching the first cardiovascular product to noninvasively compute in vivo coronary blood flow and at Siemens in the Corporate Research division. In these roles he created and led the development, regulatory clearance and launch of innovative software products to extract complex information from a wide variety of medical imaging modalities, with a particular focus on cardiovascular and oncology applications. He is internationally recognized for his work on advanced algorithms for medical imaging, image segmentation, graph theory, computer vision and machine learning. Dr. Grady is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biomedical Engineers who has published two books, over 100 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and has over 300 issued or pending patents worldwide.


Stephanie Philbin, Partner, Goodwin Procter
Ms. Philbin, a partner in the firm’s FDA group and a member of its Life Sciences practice, concentrates on Food and Drug Administration laws. She advises clients on regulatory and compliance issues including those related to Medical Device Reporting, clinical trials, premarket submissions, the Quality System Regulation, recalls, product importing and exporting, and product promotion. Ms. Philbin assists clients in responding to agency investigations and in filing comments with FDA to respond to various regulatory initiatives. She reviews SEC filings of FDA-regulated companies and conducts due diligence of companies as part of mergers and acquisitions and initial public offerings. Ms. Philbin also assists in litigation. 


(Moderator) Nick Tatonetti, Associate Professor, Columbia University
Nicholas Tatonetti, PhD, a tenured associate professor in the Columbia Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI), is an expert on the appropriate use of advanced data science methods, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to investigate medicine safety. He will speak on the promise and pitfalls and limitations of applying big datasets to medical therapies. The Tatonetti Lab's projects have led to multiple publications in major medical journals and new avenues of research into the use of emerging resources such as electronic health records and genomic databases to address predict drug safety and efficacy in individual patients and to identify hereditary familial relationships for screening purposes.
