According to the American Bankers Association, US financial institutions spent $70B on regulatory compliance in 2018, and that number is expected to grow to $118B by 2020. Using technologies such as AI, machine learning, and blockchain analysis, a number of startups and technology vendors have turned the regulatory burden into a commercial advantage, developing innovative startups and compliance initiatives.

This panel will address:

• RegTech innovation today
• Use cases for startups and new ventures by established players
• Challenges and successes
• Response by regulators and financial institutions
• Where are the future opportunities for innovation?

Speakers:

Ed Sanders, President, Arachnys — Arachnys’ customer risk intelligence platform enables financial institutions to thwart bad actors, reduce operational costs, accelerate revenue, decrease false positives and reduce rejection and error rates. It ensures a firm’s KYC, AML and CDD capabilities support regulatory compliance demands. Arachnys has raised $10M.

Jeffrey Billingsley, VP, Chainalysis  Chanalysis' cryptocurrency software helps bitcoin companies, financial institutions, and law enforcement prevent, detect, and investigate cryptocurrency money laundering, fraud, and compliance violations. Chanalysis has raised $17M.

Inessa Even, Head of Market Infrastructure and Strategic Investments for Global Markets at Credit Suisse  Inessa focuses on leveraging financial technology partnerships and investments for Credit Suisse to drive operating model evolution.

(Moderator) Vivian Maese, Partner, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft — Vivian's practice focuses on complex strategic and corporate technology transactions within the financial services industry, with a specific focus on technology, data regulation, and compliance.

Bios:

Ed Sanders is President of Arachnys. Edward is a veteran software executive and acknowledged market expert in financial crime specializing in AML, KYC, CDD and EDD compliance disciplines. He has served as a public-company CEO, general manager, chief product officer and global marketing leader across 20+years at Model N, NICE Actimize and SAP. Edward is responsible for Arachnys’ customer and market-facing organisation, leading the company’s sales, marketing, partnerships, customer success, implementation and support resources globally. He received his graduate degree from Columbia University.

Jeff Billingham is VP of Capital Markets with Chainalysis. Jeff works with financial institutions to design and implement compliance and AML policies to support the street's largest cryptocurrency initiatives. Prior to Chainalysis, he initiated cryptocurrency and blockchain strategic initiatives at IHS Markit.

Inessa Even heads Market Infrastructure and Strategic Investments for Global Markets at Credit Suisse. In this capacity, Inessa focuses on leveraging Financial Technology partnerships and investments to drive operating model evolution. Inessa serves on CS-wide innovation committees and is active in recruiting and mentorship initiatives at the firm as well as a variety of industry forums. Inessa joined Credit Suisse from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where she served in similar Strategy and Strategic Investment roles after completing her MBA at the Kellogg School of Management in 2006.

(Moderator) Vivian Maese is a partner in the New York office of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, LLP. Vivian's practice focuses on complex strategic and corporate technology transactions within the financial services industry, with a specific focus on technology, data regulation, and compliance. She advises clients on financial services regulation, trading and markets, technology and intellectual property-based transactions, and new technology innovations in the financial services space, such as blockchain, crypto-assets and machine learning. Ms. Maese was previously at Latham & Watkins, where she was a partner and co-chair of the firm's Financial Institutions Industry Group and FinTech Industry Group.
