Who runs the club?
CBSAC/NY is an all-volunteer organization. Behind the scenes, our talented and dedicated team of volunteers that work on different committees to plan and direct our club’s amazing event programming.
Each committee is headed up by usually two co-chairs, many of whom are also directors or officers of the club. Co-chairs regularly attend monthly management meetings, generate event ideas, recruit volunteers for their committee, and oversee event planning and decision-making.
Our committees and volunteers have helped make our club the most successful Columbia University alumni organization in the world!
Business Owners - This committee focuses on producing events that will help small business owners and entrepreneurs realize their dreams of building successful businesses.
Fashion, Style & Retail – The Fashion, Style & Retail committee organizes events with industry experts, interactive programs with inspiring leaders, and hosts visits to exhibitions at leading institutions. We cover many aspects of Style including Fashion, Beauty, Decorating, Design, and the Arts. We focus on the business and professional side of the industry, while promoting networking across professionals, students and enthusiasts.
Finance & Investing - The focus of this committee is events in the finance, banking, and private equity sectors.
Healthcare - This group produces topical events on the healthcare industry.
Marketing – This committee organizes events of interest to marketing executives.
Media & Technology – This committee aims to build a vibrant community of alumni with interest in high-tech and new media through events that address the industry's most pressing issues and provide networking and learning opportunities to executives, entrepreneurs and investors as well as alumni looking to engage and build relationships with broader NYC media and technology community.
Real Estate – The events produced by this committee explore aspects of the real estate industry.
Sustainable Business – Producing events related to green businesses, the environment, and sustainability, this committee explores a pioneering new industry.
Careers – This committee hosts events to help alumni and current business student members with career development.
Distinguished Leaders – Our events feature distinguished leaders from diverse industries. Their insights and experiences will help you grow into an effective leader in your organization.
Innovation & Strategy – One of our most exciting, active committees, we recruit guest speakers who are “trailblazers” transforming products, services, processes, organizations, and sectors.
International – This committee programs events on trending international topics and influential people.
Leadership Workshops – Our talented leadership team plans workshops on best practices and developing important skills for business leadership.
Women in Business – Women have changed and continue to lead the way to change business leadership. This committee provides an empowering and supportive environment with events of interest to women in business.
Venture Capital & Entrepreneurs - This committee organizes panel discussions, information sessionals and networking events to promote and meet the needs of business professionals interested in small and start-up businesses.
Connecticut & Westchester – The CT/Westchester Committee of CBSACNY was started in1995 to provide events and networking opportunities for alums who live or work in Fairfield and Westchester counties. Events are held approximately 6 - 8 times a year and usually focus on business-related topics, such as investing, marketing, and social media, but also include social activities (e.g. Greenwich polo matches and a holiday party in December), and distinguished speakers.
The Committee also organizes happy hours in Greenwich, Rye and other suburban locations. To find out more please contact Committee Chair (and co-founder) Dean Gamanos (203.629.1261). Peter Helmer and Pamela Beam serve as Committee Co- Presidents. Other active Committee members include Karen Campbell, Jonathan Greenwberg, Rob Montrone, and Xenia Razinski. Planning meetings are typically held every month or two over an inexpensive dinner in Greenwich.
Working Group & Strategy Committees
Greeters – This committee recruits volunteer “greeters” to host our events.
New Members & Social – This committee is in charge of new membership, membership renewals, and membership benefits and the planning of social events.
Marketing - This is a cross-committee group that works with others to devise strategies on promoting and marketing the club and it's events.
