Best Practices for Starting a Biotech: Lessons Learned from Industry Leaders

On the evenings of Tuesday, April 4th, Monday, April 17th, and Wednesday, May 3rd, from 4-7:30 pm Columbia’s Precision Medicine Initiative will host a seminar series specifically focusing on launching startups around biomedical technologies.

The series will expose young faculty and graduate students from the life sciences and related disciplines to the entrepreneurial world. It is designed to inform and inspire the participants to consider careers in biotechnology. It is also appropriate for individuals with careers in the life sciences who would like to learn more about how to launch a start up. Each seminar is centered around a business school-like case study.

Under the guidance of Dr. Tom Maniatis, the seminar series will cover the essentials for any life science startup: market analysis, value proposition, managing the regulatory pathway and clinical development, forming a leadership team, and raising funds from professional VCs.
