SOCIAL MEDIA AND PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS: THE PARADIGM SHIFT

Event organized in association with NY:MIEG and E.Factor
Event Date: Thursday, October 30th, 2008 at 6:30pm

Check with any major news source and you'll hear pundits pontificating about how this presidential election season has attracted more new voters than ever. One aspect that doesn't get enough coverage in the news, though, is the unprecedented influence of social media sites such as Facebook, MySpace and YouTube on youth participation and engagement.

As we head into the general election next month, Americans can rest assured that the next President, no matter who comes out with the upper hand, will be someone who appreciates - to some degree, at least - the use of technology. We have assembled a panel of speakers who all understand this paradigm shift and look forward to sharing it with you as well as hearing your feedback:

Sarah Bernard, President of 23/6, (www.236.com), a political satire site created at the Huffington Post and now part of IAC (Barry Diller) offering insight into current events, from politics to pop culture.

Mike Germano, Founder and President of new media agency CarrotCreative, (www.carrotcreative.com), who ran his own political campaign using social media 3 years ago and won.

Howard Greenstein, President of The Harbrooke Group (
www.harbrooke.com), a Social Media Consultant and advisor to WEtv for "WE Vote '08".

Rachel Sterne, Founder and CEO of GroundReport, (www.groundreport.com), one of the hottest citizen journalism sites.
