Early Stage Technology Venture Capital and Entrepreneurs

Panel Discussion of five industry experts moderated by Brian S. Model of Stonehenge Capital Company. Experienced professionals will address the pressing issues related to the evolving relationship between VCs and entrepreneurs
Event Date: Wednesday, June 14th, 2006 at 6:00pm

Since the ebullient days of the internet bubble, investors and entrepreneurs have had to change their ways. Early stage companies must now have a product and customers before being considered by most VCs. Venture capitalists who survived the shake-out to raise new funds may be victims of their own successes: Many early-stage investors have raised so much money that they can no longer “afford” to invest small amounts (less than 1 million), in unproven companies.

The reality that the average IPO has risen from 3 to 5.5 years is also having an impact. More VCs are taking an active role in the management of their portfolio companies and are using their formidable contacts to drive business. Since their fates are tied for longer periods, VCs and CEOs alike must work harder than ever to get along.

A panel of industry experts will address the following questions:

How is the trend towards larger funds impacting investment in young companies?
Who is filling the gap? Angels, governments, friends and family?
What technology sectors are still hot, providing attractive returns and exits for investors?
In what ways are VCs helping their portfolio companies succeed?
Are venture capitalists delivering on their “Value-Add” promise?
Are VC returns declining as a result of the weak IPO market?
