Afternoon Tea With Professor Ava Seave & Amy Binder: How Social Media Is Changing the Game
Come join Women In Business for afternoon tea. Professor Ava Seave and alumna Amy Binder (CBS '94) will discuss How Social Media Is Changing The Game. [CBSAC/NY event]

We will begin with 30 minutes of networking, followed by 30 minutes of discussion between Ms. Seave and Ms. Binder, and 15 minutes of Q&A. Full afternoon tea will be provided.

Conversation topics will focus on how the business of Public Relations has changed with social media's dominance, what is important to brand name customers, given the change in the media landscape, the most effective (and least effective) methods of prospecting and pitching for new business.

Amy Binder (CBS '94):

Amy Binder is CEO of the New York City-based RF|Binder, one of the companies of the Ruder Finn Group. For close to 30 years, Amy Binder has been committed to bringing new and innovative thinking to the public relations field. She, along with her partners, have taken the Ruder Finn Group from an $11 million company in the 1980s and grown it into one of the largest independent public relations firms in the world. Since 2001, Amy has served as CEO of RF|Binder, the Group’s consultancy which focuses on working with major corporations and brands on corporate reputation and brand assignments. Major clients have included Bank of America, Ameriprise, Cargill, Citibank, Dunkin’ Brands, Fiserv, The McGraw-Hill Companies, and Tupperware. Amy is a forum member of The Center for Brand Leadership at Columbia Business School. Amy received her A.B. with Honors from Brown University and her M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University.

Ava Seave (CBS Associate Adjunct Professor):

Ava Seave is a Principal of Quantum Media (http://quantummedia.com/), a leading New York City based consulting firm focused on marketing and strategic planning for media and entertainment companies. Before founding Quantum Media with four others in 1998, she was a general manager at three leading media companies: Scholastic Inc., The Village Voice, and at TVSM, the country's largest cable listings magazine.  Ava started her career at Dell Publishing (a division of Doubleday). In addition, Ava is an Associate Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School, teaching "Media and Entertainment Strategy:  Analysis, Innovation and Implementation.”  She is also an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Columbia Journalism School teaching “Making the Business of Journalism Work.” Ava is co-author (with Jonathan Knee and Bruce Greenwald) of the widely-reviewed media business strategy book, Curse of the Mogul: What’s Wrong with the World’s Leading Media Companies. (Portfolio, 2010.)  Additional writings include: co-author (with Bill Grueskin and Lucas Graves) of The Story So Far:  What We Know About the Business of Digital Journalism (Columbia Journalism School/Tow Center for Digital Journalism, 2011), contributions to the FCC Report (June 2011) on the Future- of- the- Media task force that produced "The Information Needs of Communities: The changing media landscape in a broadband age." Ava graduated from Brown University with an A.B. (Phi Beta Kappa) and Harvard Business School with an M.B.A. She is on the Board of two private companies: Davler Media and Magnify.net.  Her non-profit Boards include the DeLaSalle Academy and The American Poetry Review.
